Why study in Singapore?
1. Hub for Educational Excellence
The strength of Singapore's Education system lies in its bilingual policy (English with Mandarin or Malay or Tamil) and a broad-based curriculum to promote innovation and entrepreneurship. Students acquire the relevant skills and knowledge to survive in competitive environments, equipped for a brighter future.
Singapore's public schools have a distinctive record of high standards in teaching and learning, illustrated by international comparative studies.
At the tertiary level, in addition to boasting 4 locally grown universities, Singapore has attracted 10 world-class institutions with strong industry links to set up centres of excellence in education and research. Among them are respected names such as the leading French university - INSEAD, the renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and leading US business schools such as University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
The presence of such an international mix of institutions, a high quality and rigorous education system, and a nation that believes in investing in education, will together offer students here and all over the world, an enriching and fulfilling learning journey.
2. Stable Economy
With a GDP of S$200 billion in 2006, the island state though small in size and population (4 million people) has become a reputable financial centre, a key regional trading centre, the world’s busiest port, and a top location for investment. Often cited as a model for transparency, efficiency and political stability, Singapore has earned recognition from around the world.
The latest 2002 survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) involving 60 economies, won Singapore the title of having the best business environment in Asia. The Swiss-based World Economic Forum (WEF) also rated Singapore as the most competitive economy possessing great innovative ability and a solid macro economy in the world.
3. Good Climate
Singapore enjoys a warm tropical weather that is relatively calm and consistent throughout the year. Daily temperatures range from 23 to 34 degrees Celsius. For those who enjoy the sun and the beach, Singapore is an ideal place for beach and water sports lovers, as you get the sun throughout the year. Temperatures hardly drop to below 20 degrees during the night, although the air-conditioning in certain indoor buildings, such as shopping centres, cinemas and libraries, can be quite cold so carry a warm jacket when going to such places. Singapore is free from natural disasters like earth- quake, typhoons, tidal waves and floods.
4. Excellent Infrastructure and Accessibility
Singapore is well connected via sea, air and telecommunications to all parts of the world. Singapore Changi Airport serves more than 60 airlines to over 145 cities and has for many consecutive years been nominated as the best airport in the world. It is also probably the most wired country in Asia, with an Internet penetration rate of 67%.
Seamless accessibility to all parts of the island is available in this country, often recognised for its quality and efficient land transport system. The introduction of an EZ-link card – a contactless stored value card where consumers need only flash the card in front of a card reader that automatically deducts the required travel fare, is an example of the continuous commitment by the government to make travel faster and easier.
5. Multi-Cultural Nation with a High Quality of Life
The nation’s rich mult-cultural heritage is highlighted through the various ethnic groups (Chinese, Malays, Indians, Eurasians) living together harmoniously that have gradually acquired a distinct identity as Singaporeans whilst still maintaining each race’s traditional practices, customs and festivals. In addition, with more than 90,000 professional expatriates living and working in Singapore, they too bring their unique cultures and perspectives, adding colour and vibrancy to cosmopolitan Singapore.
6. Vibrant City Lifestyle

Singapore is not a big country, but the island state bustles all over with attractions and activities. Dining and shopping are two of the top-rated activities of locals. Needless to say, this is reflected in the staggering range of foods and cuisine, as well as the proliferation of shops in the city and suburban centres.
It also has a thriving arts and cultural scene, especially with the opening of Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, featuring world-class artistes from all over the world. Ethnic districts such as Little India, Chinatown, Malay Village give a flavour of the culture and history of Singapore. Lots of fun and funky events such as the Great Singapore Sale, Singapore Arts Festival, festive light-ups and many others make Singapore a most “happening” place to be in. Singapore is also strategically located at the heart of Asia and can be a hub to explore the Southeast Asian region.
7. Safe and Clean
In the latest 2006 survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) involving 350 cities, Singapore was ranked ‘first’ in Asia for offering the best quality of life. Thirty-nine factors were considered, including political stability, personal freedom, air pollution and the quality of healthcare, schools, restaurants and theatres.
8. Most Globalised Country
Singapore has once again been rated the world’s most globalised country , according to the 2006 study conducted by AT Kearney and the Foreign Policy magazine. In compiling the globalisation Index, it showed that nowhere in the world do foreign trade and investment flow more freely than in Singapore.
Next on the most-globalised list are Switzerland, the United States, Ireland and Denmark
In Singapore, you will find a brilliant blend of ethnic cultures and heritage, cuisine and the arts, activities and attractions, all within the island’s sunny shores.
9. Education Initiatives
To ensure that private and commercial schools focus on academic distinction, organisational excellence, comprehensive student protection and welfare practices to safeguard students' interests, Singapore has instituted the Education Excellence Framework.
This programme encourages academic distinction and reward schools with accreditation according to their standards of quality courseware.
The Singapore Quality Class for Private Education Organisations, in partnership with SPRING Singapore, promotes organisational merit through the recognition of commendable business performances of Private Educational Organisations (PEOs).
To ensure that schools adopt and maintain first-rate student protection and welfare practices and standards for international students, the Economic Development Board (EDB), the Consumer Association of Singapore (CASE), the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority(ICA) and SPRING Singapore, have introduced the CaseTrust for Education scheme, which applies to all PEOs.
